Free Painting Software

Here is our list of free painting software. The distinction between painting programs and graphics ones isn’t always clear at times. It’s a bit of an arbitrary choice which category a specific program belongs in.

In this section we have tried to include software whose main emphasis seems to be on painting but you shouldn’t take that to mean they can’t do any other general graphics task ( in the same way you shouldn’t assume general graphics programs like GIMP and Paint,net can’t paint an image).

Painting Software is often best used with a graphics tablet and pen. They can be used with a mouse but that tends to be a bit difficult. It also means you miss out on “pressure sensitivity” in programs which have it.
